THE MISSION
In the race to combat climate change, time is of the essence. Created through bipartisan Congressional support, the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) is investing nearly $30 billion billion in projects that are essential to achieving a clean energy economy. OCED works with private companies – including many Fortune 500 firms – to construct large-scale, next-generation demonstrations of cutting-edge nuclear, hydrogen, carbon, and renewable projects across America supported by a diverse group of bi-partisan political leaders, businesses, and local communities. OCED is at the forefront of the fight against climate change.
THE ROLE
Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Demonstrations will validate new energy storage
technologies and enhance the capabilities of customers and communities to integrate grid storage more effectively. DOE defines LDES as storage systems capable of delivering electricity for 10 or more hours in duration.
OCED is looking for a Program Manager to help advance LDES systems toward widespread commercial deployment, providing an opportunity for nascent LDES technologies to overcome the technical and institutional barriers that exist for full-scale deployment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversight of OCED’s Renewables and Energy Grid Program, meeting objectives on multiple simultaneous projects
- Build and oversee a team of up to 7 employees
- Manage a budget of at least $2 Billion in federal funds
- Address technical, environmental, permitting, and financing challenges for project deployment
- Ensure early identification and mitigation of cost, schedule, and/or technology risks
- Support on-site monitoring of 50+ very high-priority, large projects
- Represent the DOE to industry, universities, national laboratories, and other government entities

CANDIDATE PROFILE
- 10+ years’ experience as a Project Manager on innovative, highly-technical projects
- Experience leveraging a broad spectrum of resources and stakeholders, including private-sector companies
- Experience building diverse teams and managing & developing employees
- Experience managing multiple high-priority projects with budgets in excess of $10 million
- The ability to exercise executive-level judgment, imagination, and analysis
- A proven track record of achieving results and delivering on mission objectives
- Demonstrable familiarity with clean energy and electrical grid technologies
- Excellent team management, project management, planning, and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including demonstrated comfort and finesse communicating with high-level personnel in a variety of environments
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
