THE ROLE
Leads OCED’s Analysis team, which is responsible for financial, techno-economic, socio-economic, and lifecycle emissions analyses relating to clean energy demonstration projects, which OCED is funding through cooperative agreements.
OCED’s first-of-a-kind projects have a unique role in driving market adoption of new technologies and accelerating the transition to a decarbonized energy system. The Analysis team helps OCED understand both the effects of outside factors on its demonstration projects and the market implications of project-level insights. The Director of Analysis is responsible for setting the strategy for OCED’s approach to analysis and driving the execution of that strategy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises in-depth studies to evaluate each project's financial, regulatory, market, emissions, and local socio-economic impacts.
- Leads coordination and collaboration across project teams to manage the execution of written and analytical work within the context of overall project goals; provides leadership and guidance to junior staff on the execution of project work; ensures timely delivery of project deliverables and communicates issues as they arise.
- Directly supervises a team of 10+ analysts within OCED with specialties in financial, techno-economic, life cycle analysis, and community benefits.
- Applies technical analysis to commercial decisions.
- Translates technical information into accessible communication to enable decision-making around DOE-funded projects.
- Systematically quantifies and integrates project risks and impacts to provide a more comprehensive project view and facilitate project-focused decision-making using robust and repeatable analytics.
- Synthesizes and surfaces trends and insights common across OCED projects for OCED leadership; collaborates across OCED and DOE to understand potential impacts and mitigations.
- Collaborates on analyses of energy or related market structures, regulations, tariffs, competitors and competitive offerings, technology developments, applications, and use cases and interpret the impact of research on OCED demonstration projects.
- Incorporates environmental justice considerations in financial analysis and develops recommendations for the equitable transition to a decarbonized energy system.
- Supervises the relationships with and coordinating support from the National Laboratories and contractors on Analysis topics.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Experience managing a team of 5-10 individuals
- Alignment and commitment to the DOE OCED mission is critical
- Experience or connections with energy projects is a plus
